She proclaims that music is her therapy, “It’s the medicine to my soul” the R&B singer says. Her musical influences include (but not limited to) artists like Anita Baker, Alicia Keys, Sade', Ron Isley, Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey, Babyface, New Editon, Lloyd and Maxwell. “The Shay Project Volume 1 History In The Making”, which debuted in January 2005, was Shay’s first ever Mixtape release. Selling over 4000 copies up and down the east coast out the trunk of a car.
“Certified Super Star Vol. 3 (mixed by Dj D.P) which debuted on Feb. 1, 2010 on DatPiff.com landing a spot on their “Top 8" for over 24 hours, is now nominated for "Best Independent R&B Album Of The Year" at the Southern Entertainment Awards (SEA).
Shay Star has opened and/or performed for various artists and various events. Funk Master Flex, Trey Songs, Cassidy, DJ Kid Capri, Omarion, Lloyd, Jim Jones, Dougie Fresh, Guy Torry, Tony Roberts, and DJ Touchtone just to name a few.
